Starting at the beginning with the very first 1926 prototypes, the book introduces us to the wild 1933 Venus Bilo, the American-inspired, V-8-powered Philip (circa 1951), the Facel-Vega-inspired 1966 P172, the 1980 Volvo Concept Car and the female team-designed 2004 YCC. We also get behind-the-scenes glimpses at the origins of production models like the P1800, 144, 780 Bertone and the C70 Coupe.

Equally interesting are introductions to the people who created these cars. We meet Helmer MasOlle (designer of Volvo's iron symbol and diagonal grille slash), Jan Wilsgaard (Volvo's longtime head of design) and Pelle Petterson (son of a Volvo executive and designer of the P1800). One-offs and custom-bodied Volvos are also celebrated.
